Every great city is defined in large part by its place making. In particular, the public spaces its citizens feel a belonging to and can call their own. Now more than ever, in this pandemic era, parks are critical to the mental and physical health of a city’s residents. They offer a much needed respite, connection with nature and the outdoors, and a place to get a breath of fresh air and exercise, especially with so many of our indoor spaces no longer as safe as they once were.
For Denver, our crown jewel is Civic Center Park. Located at the heart of the city and surrounded by many of our key civic and cultural institutions, it has served as Denver’s most significant gathering spot for cultural events, festivals, civic protests, rallies and our country’s most celebrated holidays. And while it has served us well for the past 100 years, it is the responsibility of the Civic Center Conservancy to shepherd the park’s evolution and transformation to ensure it meets the needs of Denver residents for the Next 100.
CIVIC CENTER PARK’S NEXT 100 YEARS
Support for the park’s evolution already exists in our community and certain efforts to revitalize it are already underway. However, there is much more to do to successfully complete the community-drafted, 2005 Civic Center Master Plan and ensure the park remains relevant for the next century. The Next 100 program manifests our vision for this rejuvenation, which will require years of investment and collaboration by many committed people and organizations in order to make it a reality.

LEADING THE WAY FORWARD.
As the stewards of Civic Center Park for over 15 years, we at the Civic Center Conservancy not only have a responsibility, but the influence, to ensure the efforts made comprise the interests of all constituents—both civic and public—while honoring the park’s history and elevating it to the historic urban oasis and iconic cultural community hub it was always intended to be.
Our role will be to lead the creation of a cohesive strategy, advocate for the interests of all parties, spearhead the right conversations, oversee program initiatives, and secure funding to implement the rest of the Civic Center Master Plan.
Alongside the Civic Center Conservancy, our Next 100 Partners will champion the evolution of this treasured public asset as we honor its history and transform it to meet the needs of our city’s residents for the next 100 years.

KEY COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVES
Through our support and influence, there are four transformative projects with some public-supported investment, either being discussed or actually underway in Civic Center Park. These projects represent the next phase in the park’s evolution which has already seen over $20 million invested in the past 15 years. With the support of the Next 100 Partners, the Conservancy will guide these projects through to completion.
